You are your own strength

1. You are the one that breathes and eats and drinks. You are the one keeping your body alive and functioning.

2. You are the one that brings yourself home after a long day. You are the one that puts yourself into a hot shower.

3. You are the one that picks yourself up, time and time again. You are the one that gets up from the cold tile floor. You are the one that walks away from dark alleys.

4. You are the one that gathers together the broken pieces of your heart and holds it together the best you can. You are the one that takes the broken pieces of your self-worth and self-confidence and builds them up again.

5. You are the one that stops yourself from cutting. You are the one that puts down the bottle of pills. You are the reason you’re still here, despite what you may think.

You are your own strength. Sometimes, you don’t feel that way. Sometimes, you feel broken and small and pathetic and weak. Sometimes, you feel that you wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the people around you who try to keep you here. And maybe that is true. Maybe they are part of the reason you’re still here. But the main reason? It’s you. Even when you’re in the darkest of dark places, you’re still here. You. are. here.

So be proud. Remember that you are your own strength, and stay strong. Even when you feel like giving up, please don’t. Because you are beautiful. You are strong. You are amazing. You deserve to see yourself through all of these struggles. You deserve to have the future that you have imagined.

So keep going. Keep fighting. Live.

About periwinklenightshade

I am a university student who looks at the sky and speaks the first sentence that comes to her head - and each sentence is then the inspiration for writing. I have always wanted to be writer, and I hope my poetry prose will touch the hearts of my readers. And I hope that my activism speeches will bring out the fighting spirits of everyone who sees them.
